The Taverns at the 2007 Sagra delle Castagne
During Soriano nel Cimino's annual chestnut festival (Sagra delle Castagne) in October, the town divides into four sections (Contradas - named San Giorgio', 'Rocca', 'Trinita' and 'Papacqua'). Each Contrada sets up their own restaurant during the two weeks of the festival for the visitors and townspeople, and each is unique in its own way. This video shows the four taverns belonging to each of the Contradas. View the Video... -
Celebrating the 2006 Italy World Cup Victory
When Italy won the Soccer World Cup in 2006, we were in Soriano nel Cimino for the experience. We could never have imagined how intense the celebration would be. From an American's perspective, it is difficult to think of any event that would cause people to celebrate to the degree they did. We could sweep the Olympics and many of us wouldn't know about it. Even when the Red Sox finally won the World Series, the level of celebration in Boston looked like a funeral compared to the way the Italians celebrated their World Cup victory over France. This video was shot with a simple digital camera, so the quality is very poor. View the Video...

Calcata - A Quick Peek
Calcata is an ancient hilltop village that is about 45 minutes from Soriano, near Rome. What makes this village so special is that in the 1930's, it was condemned, and became a ghost town. However, in the 60's hippies and artists began to squat here, and over time it developed into a thriving artist colony of sorts. There are currently about 60 local residents of the village, who have restored it over the years and opened restaurants, cafes, and art galleries. View the Video... -
Spoleto - A Quick Peek
Spoleto is one of the more beautiful cities in Umbria, but it is best known for its Jazz festival. The city dates back to the fifth century BC, and its vast history can still be seen at every corner. Some of the more interesting sights in Spoleto are the massive 14th century Rocca Albornoziana (The Albornozian Castle), which is full of beautiful frescoes and the 12th century cathedral (Duomo), both of which are shown in the video. Waterfalls and 13th century olive mill in Soriano nel Cimino Italy
Hidden in the woods along a branch off the Tiber river, about 2 miles from the town of Soriano nel Cimino, Italy once can find these ruins of a 13th century olive mill, that once stood beside these beautiful waterfalls. The river in this location formed small channels as the water eroded the volcanic rock the sits in the bed. It is so remote that very few locals are even aware of it. No signs point to this location, and no guidebooks list it. However, the striking beatuy is nothing less than awe-inspiring. View the Video...
