We use a ton of Italian words in English.  More than many might think.  Just walk into a Starbucks, and you will probably walk out with something called a ‘LATTE<\/span>‘ (Be careful asking for it in Italy, since all you will get is milk), and if it was a large, you will have asked for ‘VENTI<\/span>‘, and you may have a bag with some ‘PANINI<\/span>‘ as well.
\nHow many time have you said ‘CIAO<\/span>‘, even though you may have thought it was spelled CHOW?
\nAt the OPERA<\/span>, might you you yell BRAVO<\/span>?  OK, all pretty obvious, but the list is actually almost endless!  Magnifico, crescendo, alto, bello\/bella<\/span>, etc.<\/p>\n

But how about Italian use of English? Actually, there have been English words used commonly in Italian for ages, but recently it has really picked up, to the point that some call it ANGLITALIANO<\/em><\/strong>.  The Italian answer to Spanglish or Chinglish.  There is even a group dedicated on erase it from use, most appropriately called The Dante Alighieri Society.<\/em><\/p>\n

How many English words exist in Anglitaliano?  Who knows?  But I listed those I could think of, and did about 5 minutes of googlage to see what I could put together.  Have a look.  The words in GREEN are English words that would be commonly understood by many Italians that don’t think they speak a word of English!<\/p>\n

OKAY<\/span><\/strong>, this WEEKEND<\/strong><\/span> I used my COMPUTER<\/span><\/strong> and MODEM<\/span><\/strong> to go ONLINE<\/span><\/strong> to TEST<\/span><\/strong> my WEBCAM<\/span><\/strong> and EMAIL<\/span><\/strong> on the INTERNET<\/strong><\/span> with my new ROUTER<\/span><\/strong>.  The SERVER<\/span><\/strong> SOFTWARE<\/span><\/strong> asked for a PASSWORD<\/span><\/strong>, then made me DOWNLOAD<\/strong><\/span> a FILE<\/span><\/strong>.  Perhaps I lack the KNOW-HOW.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Later, I listened to an ALBUM<\/strong><\/span> with MUSIC<\/span><\/strong> by a BOY BAND<\/span><\/strong>, then a CD<\/span><\/strong> with BLUES<\/span><\/strong>, HIP HOP<\/span><\/strong>, GRIND<\/strong><\/span>, CORE<\/span><\/strong>, some POP STAR<\/span><\/strong>, JAZZ<\/span><\/strong> and a HIT<\/span><\/strong> by a ROCK BAND<\/span><\/strong>, but there was a BLACK OUT.<\/span><\/strong> WOW!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

So I took off my BLUE JEANS<\/span><\/strong> and wore a SMOKING<\/span><\/strong>. I looked COOL<\/span><\/strong>, so went to a SINGLES BAR<\/span><\/strong> in a HOTEL<\/span><\/strong> that was full of SEXY<\/span><\/strong> women and had a COCKTAIL<\/span><\/strong> with the MANAGER<\/span><\/strong> who called me MISTER<\/span><\/strong>. She was BEAUTIFUL<\/span><\/strong>, with great MAKEUP<\/span><\/strong> and an EXTRA-LARGE T-SHIRT<\/span><\/strong>.   She was truly a BEAUTY<\/span><\/strong> with a great NEW LOOK<\/span><\/strong>.  I saw my EX<\/span><\/strong> with her BOYFRIEND<\/span><\/strong> who clearly found a BABYSITTER<\/span><\/strong> that night..  They deserve their PRIVACY<\/span><\/strong>, so I said BYE BYE <\/span><\/strong> and went to a PARTY.  Sadly, everyone was a<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/strong>SNOB<\/strong><\/span>. I began to feel the STRESS<\/span><\/strong>. I had a DRINK<\/span><\/strong>, then left for a CLUB<\/span><\/strong> to see a BAND<\/span><\/strong> I am a FAN<\/span><\/strong> of that plays DARK<\/span><\/strong> music.  The PERFORMANCE<\/span><\/strong> was SOLD OUT<\/span><\/strong>.. every TICKET<\/span><\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Fortunately, I had a VOUCHER<\/span><\/strong>, so the STAFF<\/span> <\/strong>let me in. OH YEAH!<\/span><\/strong> After the SHOW<\/span><\/strong>, there was a SUPER DEEJAY<\/span><\/strong> that had clearly been DOPING<\/span><\/strong>, and is probably on WELFARE<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Later I was hungry, so I got on my SCOOTER<\/span> <\/strong>and went to a PUB<\/span><\/strong>, but I couldn’t decide between a HOT DOG<\/strong>,<\/span> SANDWICH<\/span> <\/strong>or a HAMBURGER<\/span><\/strong>, so ended up having a SNACK<\/span> <\/strong>of  CRACKERS<\/span><\/strong>while watching some SPORT<\/span> <\/strong>on the TV<\/span><\/strong>, followed by a TALK SHOW<\/span><\/strong>, a FILM<\/span><\/strong>, and a REALITY SHOW<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The following day, I went to the gym to do some SPINNING<\/span><\/strong>, JOGGING<\/span><\/strong> (or FOOTING<\/span><\/strong>) and BODY BUILDING before playing some TENNIS.<\/span><\/strong> Later, I took a car with lots of SEX APPEAL <\/strong><\/span>and a big <\/span>STICKER<\/span> for a <\/span>TEST DRIVE<\/span>, but it broke down at the <\/span>STOP<\/span>, and smelled of <\/span>GAS<\/span>. Maybe it was all the SMOG<\/strong><\/span>?  So I had to take it to the <\/span>GARAGE<\/span>.  Finally, after a little <\/span>SHOPPING<\/span>, I had a <\/span>PICNIC<\/span> for lunch with my <\/span>BUSINESS PARTNER<\/span> who shared some <\/span>GOSSIP<\/span> and <\/span>NEWS<\/span> about a friend with a <\/span>HANDICAP<\/span> that became a <\/span>KILLER<\/span> by giving someone’s <\/span>PACEMAKER<\/span> a <\/span>SHOCK<\/span>.  I thought about it and simply replied: <\/span>NO COMMENT.<\/span> It’s not a <\/span>SCOOP<\/span>, and has nothing to do with our <\/span>PARTNERSHIP<\/span>.  All I wanted was a <\/span>BRIEFING<\/span> and possible <\/span>BRAINSTORMING<\/span> about a new <\/span>LOCATION<\/span> for our <\/span>BOOK SHOP<\/span>, as well as our <\/span>BUDGET<\/span> and new <\/span>SLOGAN<\/span>. You know, a <\/span>MARKETING<\/span> MEETING<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

That night I went to a BED AND BREAKFAST <\/span><\/strong>that was really nothing more than a LOFT<\/span><\/strong> with a BIG OPEN SPACE,<\/span><\/strong> instead of a RESORT<\/span><\/strong>.  After all, that is the latest TREND<\/span><\/strong>.  I read a FICTION<\/span><\/strong>, and went to sleep. GOOD NIGHT!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

So how many “Anglitaliano<\/strong>” words can be drummed up in a single blog post?  Who knows?  Maybe this one is the LEADER<\/span><\/strong> and breaks a RECORD?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n
