The first meal on the evening of our arrival set the tone. Communal tables and new tastes.  Our hotel just across the road from the Douro river was comfortable with fine buffet breakfasts. We had a bus that accommodated the 18 of us on the tour and our “host,” Inez, a very knowledgeable young woman. Each day involved a combination of traveling to vineyards, farms, and small villages and cooking experiences.  We explored Portuguese wines and food, given recipes for each dish we made.  One memorable late afternoon was drinking Vino Verde and dancing while waiting for our bread to bake in a wood-fired oven.   The tour was an informal way to experience the food and culture of one region, the Duro Valley and surrounds, of Portugal. We loved  it.
