Visit the beautiful Trapani Salt Flats


Trapani is set on the west coast of mainland Sicily. It is about 40 minutes from Palermo. It is the capital of the province of the same name, boasting a population of roughly 70,000 residents.

The most popular attraction of Trapani is the salt flats. The sea salt harvested here is one of the Sicilian economy's historical resources, dating back to the Phoenicians, who were the first to bring some form of technology to its production.

The unique climate here, such as high temperatures and a wind that increases evaporation, plus the shallowness of the water, contribute to create the evocative and unreal scenario created by the salt flats, which form a sort of immense chessboard that ranges in color from off-green to pink.

On our vacations in Sicily, we visit the salt flats, driving the "Salt Road" that winds around the great basins running along the edges of the tanks of seawater.
